Instrument Gas Heaters for Natural Gas Systems

Catco Instrument Gas Heaters warm natural gas, instrument gas, instrument air and other process streams before they reach pilots, regulators, valves and instrumentation. Stainless steel heat exchange tubing passes in front of a catalytic heater where infrared heat raises the temperature of the flowing gas or air.

Instrument Gas Heaters are commonly used where cold gas can contribute to freezing or operating problems in pilot operated regulators, control valves and sensitive instrumentation.

How Catco Instrument Gas Heaters Work

Process gas or instrument air flows through stainless steel heat exchange tubing inside the Instrument Gas Heater. A Catco catalytic heater directs infrared heat toward the tubing, transferring heat into the gas or air before it travels to the pilot, regulator, valve or instrumentation.

Heating the gas stream before it reaches critical equipment can help reduce problems caused by cold instrument gas in natural gas systems.

Catco Instrument Gas Heaters can be configured for hazardous area applications. Contact Catco to confirm the correct heater, controls and certification for your operating conditions.

Available Configurations

Catco Instrument Gas Heaters are available in multiple configurations for different flow, pressure and temperature control requirements. The 2600 Series uses a 2667 BTU per hour catalytic heater, while the 5000 Series uses a 5000 BTU per hour catalytic heater. Single and dual heat exchange configurations are available along with multiple regulator and temperature control options or Catco can also configure an Instrument Gas Heater for applications that do not fit a standard model.
